It’s election season, and West Virginia University is offering ways for students to rock the vote with its Vote12 program.

Vote12 is an initiative between the Center for Civic Engagement, Student Government Association and Student Affairs to increase student involvement in this year’s election. It is intended to inform students of registration procedures, polling areas and more.

“It is critical that WVU students are educated voters and really become involved in the process of an election year,” said Dr. Kristi D. Wood-Turner, director of the CCE. “We are happy to support our SGA and other groups who are willing to help spread information and encourage active participation from other students.”

Students can enter a photography contest by submitting a photo to serve as a visual pledge to vote in the upcoming elections. Winning photographs will be used for publicity and posted around campus, and the winners will also receive a professionally framed print of their image as well as a chance to win a gift card to the WVU Bookstore.

The deadline for photo submissions is Oct. 26. For more information including contest rules, visit https://apps.facebook.com/contestshq/contests/290998.

Vote12 also encourages participation in student organizations such as the Young Democrats, which meets on Thursdays at 7 p.m., and the College Republicans, which meets on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. Both organizations host meetings in the Greenbrier Room of the Mountainlair.
