West Virginia University has a strong tradition of success among its graduates. Alumni worldwide have achieved extraordinary success in the fields of science, technology, business, entertainment, the arts and journalism, among others.

Each year the WVU Alumni Association recognizes its successful graduates with induction into the WVU Academy of Distinguished Alumni. The association is currently accepting nominations for 2013.

Alumni can be nominated by general membership of the Alumni Association or by their respective schools or colleges. Nominees cannot be an employee of WVU, the WVU Alumni Association, or the WVU Foundation, Inc., but can be a member of the Board of Governors, Foundation Board or a similar board. Posthumous nominations are also accepted.

Nominations can be submitted electronically or by mailing a completed packet to the WVU Alumni Association, One Alumni Dr., P.O. Box 4269, Morgantown, WV 26504-4269, by 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12. Nomination packets should include: nomination form, letters of support, newspaper/magazine articles and other supporting materials.

Members of the Academy include actor Don Knotts, NASA astrophysicist Dr. Kimberly Weaver, NBA legend Jerry West, and Gen. John Craddock, formerly the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO. The association created the academy in 1988, and since its inception more than 80 graduates have been awarded this prestigious honor.

The Academy of Distinguished Alumni induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at The Erickson Alumni Center.
