West Virginia University’s Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity will hold a bell-ringing ceremony Friday (Aug. 31) in remembrance of nine students who died over the summer.

The service will begin at noon at Oglebay Plaza on WVU’s Downtown Campus, and those interested in attending are asked to be there by 11:45 a.m.

The students being honored are:

  • Austin Baeza, a sophomore pre-communication studies major from Mooresville, N.C., who died on Aug. 18
  • Brian Brick, a graduate student in business administration from Romney, who died on July 28
  • Ryan Cranford, an incoming freshman engineering major from Morgantown, who died on April 30
  • James Fladung, a freshman general studies major from Hambleton, who died on June 17
  • Anthony Foulk, an incoming freshman pre-journalism major from Alaska, who died on June 17
  • Alhaji Hassan, a former student in pre-sport management, from Alexandria, Va., who died on July 28
  • Murphy Hickerson, a graduate student in rehabilitation counseling from Canonsburg, Pa., who died on May 9
  • Jonathan Miller, a May graduate in business management from Jamestown, N.Y., who died on May 25
  • Christopher Schwer, a graduate student in integrated marketing communications from Sidney, Ohio, who died on Aug. 1

Family, friends and members of the University community are welcome to attend Friday’s ceremony.
