The West Virginia University Police Department is participating in a back-to-school safety fair “Popcorn & Popsicles” for children on Thursday (Aug. 9).

The event begins at 8 p.m. at the outdoor recreation fields near the Student Recreation Center.

A back-to-school-safety themed puppet showfollowed by a family-friendly movie are available, and parents and children can enjoy complimentary popcorn and popsicles.

Children at the Mountain Kids Club are currently voting on whether to watch “How to Train Your Dragon” or “Despicable Me” at the event.

University Police will distribute safety information to families while personnel from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Criminal Justice Information Services complex in Clarksburg will complete complimentary Child ID kits with children’s fingerprints and photographs on site.

Children can also explore police vehicles and review how to safely board, sit and travel on a school bus.

This event is open to all members of the WVU community and their friends and family. There is no charge for participating in this event. Please bring your own blankets or chairs.

The event is sponsored by the University Police Department, WVU Student Family Resources, WVU Transportation & Parking and Student Recreation Center.
