Jonathan Kimble will officially begin his reign as the 2012-13 West Virginia University Mountaineer Mascot when current Mountaineer Brock Burwell passes the rifle to him in a formal ceremony on Friday (April 20).

The ceremony will take place in the Vandalia Lounge of the Mountainlair at 3 p.m.

Kimble, a senior sport management major from Franklin, was named the mascot during the Feb. 28 WVU-DePaul men’s basketball game. His first official appearance as the Mountaineer Mascot will be Saturday’s (April 21) Gold-Blue Spring Game at 6 p.m. at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Burwell, a graduate student in athletic coaching from Harrisville, is completing his two-year term as the Mountaineer Mascot.

The ceremony will begin with opening remarks from Derek Wetsch of Mountain Honorary followed by remarks from the following former Mountaineer Mascots: Ed Cokeley, 1981 Mountaineer; Brady Campbell, 2006-08 Mountaineer; and Rock Wilson, 1991-93 Mountaineer.
