The Percussion Studio of West Virginia University’s College of Creative Arts will present a concert on Tuesday, March 20.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Antoinette Falbo Theatre of the Creative Arts Center and is free and open to the public.

The program includes Leroy Osmon’s “A Sea of Seven Colors,” which will be conducted by WVU doctoral conducting student Alejandro Pinzon. This is a wonderful work featuring a large percussion ensemble and wind quintet.

Guest artist and WVU alumnus Rande Sanderbeck will also join the Percussion Studio for the concert. Sanderbeck will perform one of his energetic drum set works entitled “Stylistic Modulations” and will join the WVU Steel Band to perform “Mabouya” by Andy Narell.

Pinzon is the music director of the Morgantown Community Orchestra as well as assistant conductor of the WVU Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as instructor of the String Studio and conductor of the String Ensemble at Waynesburg University. Previously, he served as the music director of the Latin American Choir of Pittsburgh.

Sanderbeck has been the professor of percussion at East Tenessee State University since 1985. He received his bachelor of music and master of music degrees from WVU and his doctorate in percussion performance from the University of Kentucky. He is also a contributing writer for Jazz Player magazine and has released two masterclass CDs.
