West Virginia University College of Human Resources and Education dean candidates will visit campus for interviews and presentations beginning Sunday, Feb. 26.

Dr. Peter Hlebowitsh, University of Iowa professor and department executive officer in the Department of Teaching and Learning will visit WVU on Feb. 26, 27 and 28 while Dr. Lynne Schrum, George Mason University professor and coordinator, Elementary Education, College of Education and Human Development will visit Feb. 29, March 1 and March 2.

“The HR&E Search Committee invited two candidates to campus who have a wealth of teaching, research, service and administrative experiences,” said Dr. Dana Brooks, chair of the search committee.

Hlebowitsh

Hlebowitsh’s research interests include work in educational foundations, curriculum theory and curriculum development. Since 1995, he helped to co-direct several large-scale curriculum development projects in Central and Eastern Europe, focusing mostly on civic education reforms in post-Soviet societies, including the Czech Republic, and the Republics of Armenia and Bulgaria.

Hlebowitsh is the author of a book on curriculum theory, Radical Curriculum Theory Reconsidered (Teachers College Press, 1993); a textbook on curriculum design, Designing the School Curriculum (Allyn Bacon, 2005); and an educational foundations textbook, Foundation of American Education (Kendall-Hunt, 2007).

He leads the largest department in the University of Iowa College of Education, supporting about 35 full-time faculty members and about 40 full time, fully-supported graduate assistants.

Schrum

Schrum’s research and teaching focus on teacher preparation, integration of technology in education, and educational research methods. She has written seven books and numerous articles on these topics. She is past president of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and is currently editor of the Journal of Research on Technology in Education (JRTE) (2002-2011).

Schrum is the co-author of two forthcoming books (2012), Evidence-based strategies for leading 21st century schools (Corwin Press), and Leading technology-rich schools: Award winning models for success (Teachers College Press).

She has previously served as chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Utah. Currently is a Professor and Coordinator; Elementary Education, College of Education & Human Development, George Mason University.

Candidates will be meeting with University and College administrators as well as HR&E faculty, staff, students and members of the college’s visiting committee.

Schrum – Open Forum, March 1, 405 Allen Hall, 3-4 p.m.

The new dean will have an anticipated start date of July 1. Interim Dean Dr. Elizabeth Dooley, WVU Associate Provost and Special Education Professor, is currently serving in the position.
