Pianist M. Wesley Roberts, who is professor of music at Campbellsville University in Kentucky, will present a guest artist recital at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center, Wednesday, Feb. 29, featuring works celebrating the anniversaries of French composers Debussy, Ibert and Messiaen in 2012.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A) and is free and open to the public.

Works on the program include: “Prelude” from “Suite Bergamasque” (1890) by Claude Debussy (1890-1918), as well as Debussy’s “Estampes” (1903); “Les Rencontres” from “petite suite en forme de ballet” (1924) by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962); “Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-J�sus” (1944) by Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992); and “Children’s Corner” (1906-08) by Debussy.

Dr. Wesley Roberts is professor of music at Campbellsville University, where he teaches courses in piano, organ and musicology and has been a member of the faculty since 1982. He has presented concerts as pianist and organist throughout the United States, in Europe and in Asia, including premi�res of works by the Dutch composers Hans Osieck, Johan van Kempen and Kees Weggelaar, and the American composers Tom Johnson and James W. Moore.

He is the author of articles and reviews in British, Dutch, and American journals, and co-author with Maurice Hinson of “The Piano in Chamber Ensemble,” 2nd Edition, published in 2006. He is currently preparing a new edition of Dr. Hinson’s encyclopedic “Guide to the Pianist’s Repertoire.” He has served as a visiting professor at the French Piano Institute in Paris and at Shanghai Normal University, and has served as organist at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Louisville and First Baptist Church in Somerset for nearly a decade each.

He has organized concert tours across Kentucky for international artists from France, Holland, Denmark, England and China, and has served additionally as president of three professional organizations, including the Kentucky Music Teachers Association, which granted him its’ 2005 Distinguished Service Award.
