Visitors to West Virginia’s State Capitol on Tuesday will see a sea of gold, blue, and 4-H green as representatives from West Virginia University and WVU Extension bring their education-filled resources to Charleston for WVU & WVU Extension’s Day at the Legislature.

More than 50 programs will exhibit in the Capitol’s upper and lower rotundas, beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The event lasts until approximately 1:30 p.m.

More than 800 4-Her’s, Master Gardeners, Community Educational Outreach Service members, and Extension volunteers from across the state will attend the event.

“For many of our 4-H youth and adult volunteers, this is their first time seeing the Capitol,” said Steve Bonanno, interim director of WVU Extension Service. “We want to provide them with an opportunity to see how decisions are made in their state and to see what higher education has to offer them.”

Attendees are also invited to the day’s kick-off event at the W. Va. Culture Center at 9 a.m. Talks from WVU President Jim Clements, House of Delegates Member Linda Phillips, and Clara Grandt, a four-time NCAA All-American runner, will take place in the Culture Center auditorium.

Educational displays feature something for everyone including the Office of Information Technology and WVU Health Sciences Center.

Interested in planning for college? WVU recruiters and the Higher Education Policy Commission’s College Foundation of West Virginia will have application and funding information.

Visitors can also see the Orange Bowl Trophy, which will be on display in the lower rotunda.

Other exhibitors include WVU’s Extended Learning’s on-line, off-campus programs, WVU Jackson’s Mill, and colleges of Law and Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources & Design. For a full listing of exhibitors, go to www.ext.wvu.edu/events/wvues_day/registration.

WVU’s Day at the Legislature isn’t the only way West Virginians can access WVU’s resources. WVU Extension Service has offices in all 55 West Virginia counties.
