The West Virginia University Choral Program will present a Winter Concert, featuring organ professor William Haller, in “Durufl Requiem” at 3:15 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19, in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre of the Creative Arts Center.

The choirs will be conducted by Jeffry Blake Johnson, and the performance will also feature the WVU Choral Union, the University Choir and the WVU Women’s Choir.

The “Requiem” by Maurice Durufl was commissioned in 1947 and was written in memory of the composer’s father. At the time of the commission, Durufl was working on an organ suite using themes from Gregorian chants and he incorporated his sketches for that work into the Requiem, which uses numerous themes from the Gregorian “Mass for the Dead.”

According to Johnson, the program will also feature compositions for organ by Louis Vierne.
