Timothy Smith, trombonist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform a guest artist recital at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center, Thursday, Jan. 26, at 8:15 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A). The event is free and open to the public.

The program will include: ””Morceau Symphonique” by Philippe Gaubert; “Concerto for Alto Trombone” by Leopold Mozart; “Basta” by Folke Rabe; and “Heine Lieder from Schwanengesang” by Franz Schubert.

Smith has been with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra since 2009 and previously served as Acting Principal Trombone of the San Diego Symphony and Opera and also as Acting Second Trombone for the Jacksonville Symphony. He frequently substitutes with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and has also appeared with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grant Park Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony and Opera, Virginia Symphony, Chicago Philharmonic, Ravinia Festival Orchestra, Chicago’s Music of the Baroque, Chicagoland Pops and many regional orchestras throughout greater Chicago.
