For those West Virginia University students who are already looking forward to hitting the beach during spring break, the Student Recreation Center is providing Physique7 to help them reach their fitness goals.

Physique7 is a free body transformation contest to get students lean and fit while encouraging healthy lifestyle choices. Over the course of seven weeks, students are encouraged to take advantage of services at the center such as personal training, nutrition coaching and boot camp classes.

“Students are already coming into the rec for their new year’s resolutions, so signing up for this program is just another incentive for them to work even harder, and get rewarded for it,” said Nancy Oliverio, manager for fitness and wellness at the Rec Center.

Registration for the program runs until Jan. 27, and the competition begins on Jan. 30. The program will end on March 17, the week before spring break begins. Participants must be full-time WVU students. Students must register for the program before getting their pre-fitness evaluation or signing up for personal training.

As an added bonus to the program, there will be grand prizes given to the top two highest-scoring males and females, as well as the MVP award, which will go to the student with the most participation throughout the seven weeks.

Prizes are as follows: the first-place male will receive the “Extreme Getaway” package, including a River Expeditions whitewater rafting for two including a two-night stay in a rustic cabin; the second-place male will receive the “Golf Package,” including a one-night two-day golf package for two at Lakeview Resort; the first-place female will receive the “Total Makeover Package” including an overnight stay at Hotel Morgan, a personal shopper and spray tan at Lavish Boutique (a $200 value) and a facial from BellaRosa Skincare; and the second-place female will receive an overnight stay at Nemacolin Woodland’s Resort and two spa services at The Woodland’s Spa (up to $125 each). The MVP will receive a three-month fitness membership to Lakeview Fitness and Sports Center.

In addition, prizes will be raffled off each week for participants working out at the recreation center at least three times during the given week. The names will automatically be added to the weekly drawing’s list after the third visit to the recreation center.

The winners this year will be selected based on completion of all components, not just body fat loss. Consideration will be taken into change in weight, body fat, lean-to-fat mass ratio, how many times the student visits the recreation center during the seven weeks, how often food logs are turned in and the number of personal training sessions they have completed.

Before-and-after photos are also taken into consideration for the grand prizes.

“We are pushing for students this year to send us before-and-after photos, not only to help us evaluate them for grand prizes but also so that they can see their own progress that they’ve made over seven weeks,” Oliverio said.

Personal training sessions will be offered in a multi-client format and can be booked online through the SRC website. Students are responsible for signing up for personal training by visiting http://simpleforms.scripts.wvu.edu/src/Physique7PTForm/. An intense boot camp class will be offered on Tuesday evenings at 6:40.
