The West Virginia University Marching Band, under the direction of Jay Drury, will present its annual “Keynotes Concerts” at the Creative Arts Center, Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 28 and 29.
The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre and will feature the Band’s full complement of brass, woodwinds, percussion, flags and feature twirlers.
They will perform musical highlights from the 2011 football season, including favorite pre-game favorites and school songs such as “Fight Mountaineers,” “Mountain Dew,” “Simple Gifts,” “Country Roads,” “Hail, West Virginia!” and the Alma Mater.
Halftime music will include: theme from “The Cowboys”; theme from “Spiderman,” as performed by Michael Buble; theme from “Pirates of the Caribbean”; “The Stars and Stripes Forever”; “Armed Forces Salute” and “America The Beautiful”; “God Bless America”; “El Toro Caliente”; “The Tiger of San Pedro”; “Aztec Fire”; a medley by pop star “Ke$ha”; a medley of songs by pop star “Usher”; “Firework” by pop star Katy Perry; theme from James Bond’s “Goldfinger”; “Everyday People” by classic rock band Sly and the Family Stone; and “The Ascension.”
Special performances by each of the band’s sections, including percussion, saxophones, trumpets, and piccolos, among others, are especially popular with the audience, as are the outstanding performances by the twirlers.
The award-winning WVU Mountaineer Marching Band, also known as “The Pride of West Virginia,” is one of the most respected organizations on the WVU campus. Most of the students in the band come from various states up and down the eastern U.S. These students are enrolled in various colleges at the University and represent almost every major the University has to offer.
The esprit de corps of the WVU Marching Band and the enthusiastic response of the audiences to the sight and sound of the band contribute to its success and show why it is considered one of the premier collegiate marching bands in the nation.
