Five-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist Michael McDonald will perform at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center on Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices, online at ticketmaster.com, or by calling 304-293-SHOW and 800-745-3000.

McDonald’s distinct voice has made him a staple in the soft rock and “blue-eyed soul” genres, with a career spanning four decades. Beginning his career providing backing vocals for jazz-rock band Steely Dan, McDonald appeared “The Royal Scam” and the platinum, Grammy-winning “Aja.” McDonald also performed as part of The Doobie Brothers, contributing several of the band’s greatest hits, including “What a Fool Believes” and “Takin’ It to the Streets.”

McDonald found success as a solo artist after performing in the two groups, co-writing Van Halen’s hit “I’ll Wait,” as well as recreating The Doobie Brothers track “You Belong to Me,” which reached No. 4 in the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in 1978. “Yah Mo B There,” a duet with James Ingram, won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 1985. His collaboration with Patti Labelle for “On My Own,” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1986. In 2003, he earned two Grammy nominations for his album “Motown,” a tribute to the Motown sound.

McDonald recently released “The Voice of Michael McDonald,” a collection of hits from his own work and The Doobie Brothers. In June 2011, McDonald revealed to music website Inside MusicCast he was releasing a new album with guitarist Robben Ford, which he described as a “very eclectic record” with Latin, jazz, blues and pop combinations.
