West Virginia University will conclude Mountaineer Week with the finale of Mountaineer Idol on Sunday (Nov. 6) at 3 p.m. at the Morgantown Metropolitan Theatre on High Street.

The competition began in early September with 16 finalists and has been narrowed down to the final three over the last two months. The top three contestants are sophomore biology major Patrick Garcia, sophomore business management major Ellis Lambert and sophomore finance major Chelsea Malone. Each performer will be singing three different songs (one from a previous performance, one the contestant’s have never performed before and one the hosts select) to showcase their talent and prove they are worthy of being the 2011 Mountaineer Idol.

Co-hosts for the finale are Amanda Hughart, reigning Mountaineer Idol winner, and Matt Boczanowski, Student Government Association governor and Mountaineer Week co-chairperson.

For attendees, there will be a special giveaway sponsored by Coca-Cola. To win a brand new iPhone 4, the audience must check-in on Foursquare via a smart phone to the Morgantown Metropolitan Theatre and stay for the entire show. At the end, a winner will be randomly selected from the list of those who checked-in.

In addition, points will be given for the Mountaineer Week Challenge. Those points will be totaled and will go toward being named the best sorority and fraternity on campus.

The winner of Mountaineer Idol will receive $1,000, runner-up will receive $750 and second-runner up will receive $250. The winner will be asked to perform the national anthem at the WVU men’s basketball game vs. Akron on Nov. 28 and at other various events throughout the 2011-12 school year.

Mountaineer Idol is sponsored by Coca-Cola and Coni & Franc.
