Will West Virginia rebound in the coming year from the economic downturn? Will the improving national economic outlook carry over to the state economy? Which counties are bouncing back and which counties are not?
The 18th Annual West Virginia Economic Outlook Conference will be presented by the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 8 at the Charleston Embassy Suites Hotel.
Forecasts of the coming year’s national and West Virginia economic trends will be presented by Andy Bauer, a regional economist at the Baltimore Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, and Dr. George Hammond, economist at the WVU Bureau of Business and Economic Research, housed within the College of Business and Economics. Presentations are scheduled to follow West Virginia’s economic outlook by Corky DeMarco, executive director of the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association, and Mark Muchow, deputy secretary, West Virginia Department of Revenue.
West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin will speak to conference attendees following panelist presentations.
Early registration is $75 per person and has been extended through Nov. 2, after which registration is $90. Registration includes continental breakfast, conference materials and the 2011 West Virginia Economic Outlook publication. Students can attend for $30 with student ID.
Dr. Tom S. Witt, BBER director and associate dean for research and outreach for the WVU College of Business and Economics, will provide a welcome and conference overview. Closing remarks will be provided by Dr. Jose Sartarelli, Milan Puskar Dean, College of Business and Economics.
