Cycling coaches and cyclists from around the country will offer expert advice on how to design a high school cycling program during a networking conference Friday, Oct. 21 at the WVU Coliseum. The event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Along with starting a team, the group will discuss how to organize a race and other topics.

“This is a unique opportunity. Cycling experts will be on hand to talk about becoming a coach and share best practices for establishing and running interscholastic cycling teams and race series for high school athletes,” said Dr. Kristen Dieffenbach, assistant professor, Athletic Coaching with WVU College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences.

“This is a growing sport and the program is a great way to learn about gathering support at the schools and in the community.”

Presenters will include Peter Hufnagel and Andy Guptill of the Miller School of Albemarle Cycling Team and the Virginia High School Mountain Bike Series and Andrew Armstrong of the Texas High School Cycling League. Other speakers will represent Michigan, California and Nevada cycling groups.

The cost to register is $50, and includes lunch. Go to http://www.usacycling.org/highschoo for details and to register. Questions about the 2011 USA Cycling High School Summit should be directed to Jeffrey Hansen, USA Cycling High School and Collegiate Program Manager at jhansen@usacycling.org or 719-434-4215.
