Two faculty members from the West Virginia University Community Arts Program, Janis-Rozena Peri, soprano, and pianist Catherine Crotty, will present a recital at the Creative Arts Center, Sunday, Sept. 25.

The program begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A). The recital is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

Titled “Life, Death, and In Between,” the program features several sections, with accompanying songs, including:

What’s Love got to do with it?: “Rispetti” by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari; “Take, O Take Those Lips Away” by Amy Beach; and “Chanson d’amour” by Gabriel Faur�.

Instruments of Joy: “Sound of the Flute” by Celius Dougherty; “Violon” by Francis Poulenc; and “Mandoline” by Gabriel Dupont.

The Man That Got Away: “Heart, we will Forget him” by Aaron Copland; “Bess of Bedlam” by Henry Purcell; “La maja dolorosa” by Enrique Granados; and “Vergebliches St�ndchen” by Johannes Brahms.

Mother and Child: Dialogue and Remembrance: “Preludio” by Manuel de Falla; “Lia’s aria” by Claude Debussy; “Als die alte Mutter” by Antonin Dvorak; “Liebestreu” by Johannes Brahms; and “Das irdische Leben” by Gustav Mahler.

Benediction: “Zueignung” by Richard Strauss; “Benediction” by Peri’s mother, noted composer Zenobia Powell Perry; and “Everyone Sang” by Howard Wells.

Peri recently retired from the WVU voice program and is now an artist faculty member in the Community Music Program. She received a bachelor of music degree in piano from Otterbein College and a master of music degree in voice from Miami University, Ohio. She has performed in the major venues of New York City and throughout the United States and Europe.

Crotty is a longtime artist faculty member in the Community Music Program, who also recently retired. She has performed extensively as an accompanist and chamber music player. For more than 20 years, she was principal pianist with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra and she has recently performed with the Pino Grigio Duo.
