Jim Samuel loved West Virginia University. An avid sports fan, he and his friends often enjoyed watching WVU football and basketball games and taking in a few rounds of golf. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and soon went to work as a commodities broker for Carr Futures.

Tragically, the 1993 grad was killed during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, as he worked in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. On Saturday (Sept. 10), alumni and friends will gather in Purdy Circle at The Erickson Alumni Center to honor Jim with the dedication of a new wall and University Seal located at the center.

“As Jim’s friends and family will tell you, he was a true Mountaineer in every sense of the word,” said Stephen L. Douglas, president and CEO, WVU Alumni Association. “He embodied the spirit and passion that is so characteristic of our grads. This weekend we will remember and honor him, as well as others who perished during the tragic events of Sept. 11, including fellow grad Chris Gray.”

The University Seal, which was moved from the circular drive to the newly built brick wall, was a gift from Jim’s good friend and WVU roommate, Brian Martin, who will be on hand to offer brief remarks during the dedication.

The dedication will begin at 11 a.m.
