The Mid-Atlantic Aerospace Complex will host its third annual Aviation Summer Camp on June 15-17 on the Evansdale Campus of West Virginia University. The camp provides an opportunity for 45 students selected from a 20-county region in the state to have an all-expenses paid, aviation-focused experience.

First day events include team building activities; engineering design challenges; tours of WVU labs; and a presentation by the Spinning Bees, featuring world freestyle Frisbee champion Gary Auerbach. Day two will be held in Wheeling, where campers will participate in an onsite mission at the Challenger Learning Academy. The final day of camp will include a tour at the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Center in Bridgeport; tours of a C130 brought to North Central West Virginia Airport by the 130th Airlift Wing of the state’s Air National Guard; and a presentation by WVU alumnus Captain Jon McBride, a retired NASA astronaut.

The camp is made possible through a NASA education grant and the support of the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium, which has assisted in the coordination and planning of the event. The campers will be mentored by current students enrolled in WVU’s College of Engineering and Mineral Resources and the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.
