New and prospective students will have easier access to West Virginia University admissions staff thanks to an office consolidation that will take place in June.

Next month, WVU’s Office of Admissions, which includes around 30 employees, will move from Colson Hall, on WVU’s downtown campus, and join undergraduate recruitment staff at One Waterfront Place. They will join around 15 admissions counselors, who recruit students to WVU, on Waterfront’s second floor.

Along with new student recruitment, the Office of Admissions and Recruitment processes applications for admission to the University and often serves as a resource for a variety of information that students and their families seek when visiting campus.

Brenda Thompson, associate vice president, enrollment management, said having the staff consolidated in proximity to the Visitors Center, also at Waterfront Place, will improve convenience for new students and their families. The vacated space at Colson will be occupied by the Office of the University Registrar, along with business personnel.

“We’re really excited about it,” Thompson said of the move. “It brings together two groups that are a natural fit and we’re looking forward to the efficiencies and dynamics it will offer, not only to us, but to our students and their families.

“It will be nice for families when they come in for a visit. From the Visitors Center, they can go upstairs to the Admissions and Recruitment Office where staff will be on hand if they have any questions. We can find their information on site rather than having to send them to another building.”

Along with the move, the University is in the process of hiring an executive director of admissions and recruitment, Thompson said. The position should be filled by the start of the fall semester in August, Thompson said.
