In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, West Virginia University’s Women Against Rape will be holding several events to educate females at WVU.

The first event on April 7 will be Drop-A-Cop hosted with the WVU Police Department. Women will have the chance to tackle a University police officer and learn several tips to effectively protect themselves.

On April 14, WAR will have an information booth with facts and games related to sexual assault awareness as well as a bake sale.

MACE, or Mace A Criminal Expertly, will take place on April 21. Women will be shown the proper usage of pepper spray and given the opportunity to practice spraying police officers with a deactivated spray.

The last event, on April 28, will give women the chance to see if they can tell the difference between a safe drink and a spiked drink. WAR will be handing out coasters that test for major date rape drugs such as GHB and Ketamine.

Each event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. in the free speech zone in front of the Mountainlair. Women will have the chance to sign up for WAR’s newsletter, as well as obtain information about sexual assault and the PROTECT self-defense class offered by the University Police Department.

WAR is a new organization that works to promote sexual assault awareness on campus and the free self-defense classes offered by the WVU Police Department.
