Victims of the Holocaust will be remembered by members of the West Virginia University and Morgantown communities April 12 – 13 inside the WVU Mountainlair.

The Yom Hashoah International Holocaust Memorial Program will begin at noon Tuesday (April 12), and continue uninterrupted for 24 hours. The event is sponsored by WVU Hillel.

During World War II, the Holocaust, conducted by Nazi Germany, claimed an estimated 12 million victims, six million of which were Jews. The victims’ names are not all known, and participants in the local reading will recite names from a list provided by Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority.

Information about the Holocaust will be available at the event. The local observance is part of “Unto Every Person There is a Name,” an international project to remember the victims of the Holocaust and continue collecting names of the unidentified victims.

Those interested in participating should contact WVU Hillel at 304-545-1369 or e-mail wvuhillel@gmail.com to schedule a reading time in advance or sign up during the event.
