The fundraiser will kickoff on with a WVU sorority banner competition. Each sorority will design a banner to be judged by former patients and their families. The banners will include the name of the sponsoring WVU sorority, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the Children’s Miracle Network Logo and WVU Children’s Hospital. The winning banner will be displayed at the hospital.
On Tuesday (April 5), SAE will sponsor a blanket-making event that will benefit the Infusion Center at the hospital. The blankets will be donated to children that are in need of chemotherapy or radiation.
“Many times the blankets donated to the Infusion Center are too small for the children,” said Cameron Taylor, a senior business management major and SAE’s philanthropic chair. “During chemotherapy, the children are sitting in chairs and the smaller blankets don’t cover their entire body. We will make and donate blankets that are more comfortable for the children.”
On Wednesday (April 6), SAE will host sorority Olympics on the Mountainlair green. Sororities will compete in three events, Ms. Sorority Olympics, Ms. Sorority Olympics Relay and the Ms. Gladiator Joust. Each sorority will represent their organization and a former WVUCH patient. The child being represented will assist their sorority throughout the event. Face-painting and games will be available to keep the children active while their sorority is not competing.
Following the Olympics, the children and their families will join WVU Greeks at the SAE house for refreshments, catered by Mario’s Fishbowl, and for the announcement of event winners.
“This is a fun way to raise awareness of the needs of young patients and raise money for the hospital,” Taylor said.
