West Virginia University parents can get first-hand experience on what it is like to be a Mountaineer during the second annual Spring Family Weekend.

During the weekend, April 8-10, parents can work out at the award-winning Student Recreation Center, tour campus, take part in a career seminar, attend a baseball game and even go to class with their student.

“Spring Family Weekend is a great time for parents to visit and interact with their student, all while getting a feel for what life is like on campus,” said Sabrina Cave, executive director of the Mountaineer Parents Club. “Events have been planned for the whole family.”

On Friday, parents can attend class with their student, take a fitness class at the Student Recreation Center, tour campus, take part in WVU’s renowned WVUp All Night program, attend a baseball game and learn about career preparation.

“I really am going to graduate – now/then what?” the Spring 2011 Career Seminar, will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson Alumni Center. At the session, which costs $5 a person, students and parents can meet successful WVU alumni and Career Services Center staff, learn how to network and build a resume.

On Saturday, families can hike at Coopers Rock State Forest, attend Morgantown’s Chocolate Lover’s Day, participate in a 5k Heart Walk or attend a baseball game.

At 3 p.m. the WVU baseball team will take on Big East rival Georgetown at Hawley Field, near the Coliseum. A free admission coupon is available online at http://parentsclub.wvu.edu/spring_weekend/schedule .

WVU’s Student Government Association is sponsoring the 5k Heart Walk, to be held at 3 p.m. Participants will begin the walk at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park and will continue on the Rail Trail. The weekend will conclude on Sunday with the University’s annual Spring Ring Day Ceremony at the Erickson Alumni Center.

Ring Day will be held at 12:30 p.m. Students who have attained junior status and have ordered a WVU class ring can participate in the ceremony. Each recipient’s name is penned into the Ring Day Book, a historical record of those who have received the official class ring. Registration is required.
