Scenes from famous operas will be presented by West Virginia University’s Opera Theatre during a program titled “American Opera Arias,” at the Creative Arts Center, March 10-12.

Directed by Robert Thieme, who is head of the WVU opera program, opera performances in the Antoinette Falbo Theatre begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday (March 10-11), and 3:15 p.m., Saturday (March 12).

The students will perform scenes from: “The Old Maid and the Thief” and “The Medium” by Gian Carlo Menotti; “Susannah” by Carlisle Floyd; “Vanessa” and “A Hand of Bridge” by Samuel Barber; “Street Scene” by Kurt Weill; “Trouble in Tahiti” by Leonard Bernstein; “Sweeney Todd” by Stephen Sondheim; “Nixon in China” by John Adams; “Little Women” by Mark Adamo; “Streetcar Named Desire” by Andre Previn; “Guys and Dolls” by Frank Loesser; and “Porgy and Bess” by George Gershwin.

Students performing include Maureen Seymour, Samantha DeStefano, Nathan Costella, Chris Toeller, Terri Parlett, Mike Simpson, Natalie Shaffer, Sarah Plata, Dennis Gallagher, Amanda Majocha, Joshua Stubbs, Kara Sweeney, Julie Kremm, Kelsey Pierce, Sarah Nale and Jarrell Strickland. Piano accompanist is graduate student Sam Oram.
