West Virginia University Master of Fine Arts candidate Ron Hollingshead will present his MFA thesis exhibition at the Laura Mesaros Gallery of the Creative Arts Center during March 10-April 1.

Hollingshead will host an opening reception at the gallery, Friday (March 18) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., where refreshments will be served.

Titled “Controlled Substance,” the sculpture and inter-media artwork reflects circumstances surrounding Hollinghead’s own personal health issues. A recent back surgery and its following complications, though difficult, have given the graduate student much positive inspiration for art making.

Larger, more universal topics, such as body, disability, pain, and pharmaceutical use are touched upon, but all originate from a very personal point of departure.

Ron Hollingshead’s work can be seen online at http://ronhollingshead.blogspot.com/

MFA thesis exhibitions are cutting-edge contemporary works that represent the highest level of achievement for WVU students as they receive their Master of Fine Arts degree from the Division of Art and Design.

Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, from noon to 9:30 p.m. The galleries are closed Sundays and University holidays. Special individual or group viewing times may be arranged upon request.

All exhibitions and related events are free and open to the public.
