West Virginia University’s Upward Bound program is looking for high school students to take part in its Upward Bound college preparation program.

The program helps students from selected high schools with the overall college experience. Students who enroll will receive free tutoring, assistance with college admissions, ACT/SAT test prep and more.

A federally-funded TRiO program, Upward Bound is designed to help high school students overcome social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education.

Once admitted into the program, students receive support through their first year of college to help ensure retention. The program can accept up to 60 students.

To qualify, applicants must be first-generation and/or low-income high school students, and must be enrolled at Clay-Battelle, Grafton or Preston high schools in the fall. If spaces are available, newly admitted students may participate in the residential summer program, which runs from June 26 to August 5.

Applications are available at middle and high school guidance offices, the WVU Upward Bound office at 709B North High St. and online at http://upwardbound.wvu.edu/apply_to_upward_bound.

The priority application deadline is April 15. For more information, contact (304) 293-6199 or upwardbound@mail.wvu.edu.
