West Virginia University students and members of the local community will be performing in Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues,” in a fundraiser for violence prevention.

Showings will be held in the Creative Arts Center’s Vivian Michael Davis Laboratory Theater on Feb. 12 and Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m.

“The Vagina Monologues,” first performed off-Broadway by Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences. Ensler has performed the play to great acclaim throughout the world, and the play has also been published.

V-Day, a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls, saw more than 5,400 benefits held around the world last year to raise funds to end violence against women. In twelve years, the V-Day movement has raised over $75 million and reached over 300 million people.

The performances are directed by Mara Nadolski and produced by Kate Burns, Melissa Chesanko, Julie Goldberg, and Brandi Neogra.

The production is sponsored by The Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, the WVU Division of Theatre and Dance, the WVU Laboratory Theatre and the WVU Center for Women’s Studies.

Tickets are $7 and will be available at the door starting one hour prior to show time. Seating in the Vivian Davis Michael Laboratory Theater is limited.

Funds from performances held at WVU will go to the Rape and Domestic Violence Information Center (RDVIC) and to raise awareness to end violence against women and girls.
