The Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon Fiddler on the Roof will come to the WVU Creative Arts Center on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the Mountainlair and CAC box offices, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 304-293-SHOW.

A mainstay of Broadway since its 1964 debut, Fiddler on the Roof has been delighting audiences with its groundbreaking story and enchanting melodies for decades. The play follows the life and struggle of a Jewish family in the confines of Tsarist Russia, focusing on the moral dilemmas brought about by the changing society. A protective father and traditionalist, the main character Tevye (veteran actor John Preece in his ninth national Fiddler tour) strives to come to terms with the shifting world his daughters are growing up in, learning to overcome their decisions and place love before their Jewish faith.

Filled with a rousing, heartwarming score, which includes “Tradition,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” Fiddler on the Roof held the longest running Broadway musical record for nearly 10 years. The original Broadway appearance of Fiddler on the Roof was the first run of a musical in history to surpass the 3,000 performances mark. The production has been nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won nine of them, including Best Musical and Best Direction. No doubt due to its universal appeal, the show has been revived in both the London theater and Broadway numerous times, continuing to charm audiences around the world. Be sure not to miss this moving celebration of acceptance in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre!
