The magic of Christmas and the wonder of science were joined together nearly 200 years ago when physicist and chemist Michael Faraday initiated the Christmas Lecture Series at the Royal Institution of Great Britain.

That series continues today, and West Virginia University will honor that great tradition as the C. Eugene Bennett Department of Chemistry will present the Christmas Children’s Chemistry Show on Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m. in Clark Hall, Room 101.

Faraday’s hope in 1825 was to generate enthusiasm for science. The lectures present scientific subjects to a general audience, including young people, in an informative and entertaining manner.

WVU hopes to do the same with a 75-minute show featuring entertaining experiments and demonstrations to delight children from age 5 to 105. The event is free and open to the general public.

Clark Hall is located on the downtown campus of WVU across from the Mountainlair parking garage on Prospect Street.
