Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Sarah McLachlan to perform at the WVU Creative Arts Center Jan. 14
Three-time Grammy winner Sarah McLachlan will bring her intimately familiar voice to the WVU Creative Arts Center Jan. 14 for a 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets are on sale at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices, online at www.ticketmaster.com and by phone at 304-293-SHOW.
McLachlan has enjoyed a storied career spanning more than 20 years and selling more than 40 million recordings worldwide. In addition to her chart-topping hits “I Will Remember You,” “Possession,” “Adia,” and “Angel,” McLachlan has three Grammy Awards (two for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and one for Best Pop Instrumental Performance) and eight Juno Awards from her native Canada to her credit.
McLachlan’s all-new show “An Evening with Sarah McLachlan and Friends featuring Butterfly Boucher and Melissa McClelland” will highlight not only the atmospheric folk-pop that has gained her a devoted fan following, but will also feature songs from Laws of Illusion, her first studio album in nearly seven years. Fans can expect a performance full of her signature emotional ballads as well as upbeat, almost jaunty piano-based pieces like the album’s first single “Loving You is Easy.”
McLachlan’s influential adult alternative sound has opened the doors for female artists and connected a generation through over two decades of soulful folk-pop. The multi-award winner founded the recently revived Lilith Fair – a concert tour that has helped to usher other female songwriters into the mainstream. McLachlan is a fervent philanthropist and has raised millions of dollars for charities through a variety of venues, though her most influential work is unquestionably the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach Program, a program that provides free music education classes to inner city youths whose school music programs have been reduced or abolished by budget cuts.
McLachlan will be joined by both Butterfly Boucher and Melissa McClelland, artists who have each seen a fair amount of individual success. Grey’s Anatomy fans will recognize Boucher’s “Bitter Song,” a haunting song from her album Scary Fragile. McClelland’s third album, Victoria Day, is – according to Performing Songwriter magazine – “a throwback to 1950s jazz, big band and swing—but with a contemporary twist.” Both artists performed on this year’s Lilith Fair bill.
Tickets for An Evening with Sarah McLachlan and Friends are on sale at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices. Tickets are limited to four per household. Prices range from $42 to $72, depending on seat location. WVU Students receive a $10 discount on all price levels with a valid WVU Student I.D. at the campus box offices.
