A Piano duo featuring Tean Hwa P’ng and Pei Sien Lim, alumni of the West Virginia University Division of Music and teachers at the University College Sedaya International (UCSI) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will present a guest artist recital at 6 p.m., Thursday (Nov. 18) in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A) of the Creative Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The program consists of: “Larghetto und Allegro in E-flat Major” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), “Variations on a Theme by Paganini” by Witold Lutoslawski (1913-1994), “Danses andalouses” by Manuel Infante (1883-1958) and “Sonata in F minor, Op. 34b” by Johannes Brahms (1833-1897).
Tean-Hwa P’ng has appeared in many public concert performances as a solo pianist as well as collaborative pianist in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hungary and the U.S. He is frequently sought after as a clinician to present lectures, workshops, seminars and master classes.
Currently, Tean-Hwa is associate professor and associate dean of the School of Music at UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur. He holds a doctorate of musical arts in piano performance and literature from the WVU Division of Music. While at WVU, he performed with the WVU Symphony Orchestra as a winner of its Young Artist Competition.
Pei-Sien Lim received her doctorate of musical arts in piano performance from WVU. She was granted scholarships and graduate assistantships throughout her studies at WVU, including the Higher Education Resource Fund Top-Off Fellowship, and was awarded the Outstanding Music Student Award by the WVU Music Alumni Association.
Pei Sien was a winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society’s 2002 Major Audition, the MTNA Collegiate Artist Piano Competition in the state of West Virginia, and the WVU Young Artist Competitions. Dr. Lim is currently a senior lecturer at UCSI University, Kuala Lumpur, where she is the coordinator of the Chamber Music Ensemble.
