The holiday season is quickly approaching, and engineering students at West Virginia University co-sponsoring an event to ensure local children ride into the festivities in style.

Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honorary, is hosting its Fall Bicycle Drive Nov. 1 through Nov. 19. Bikes for children or adults that are in repairable condition will be accepted. These bikes will be repaired and donated to area residents in need through the Christian Help Toy Drive.

Bikes may be dropped off at any time during the drive at the Area 41 parking lot loading dock behind the Engineering Sciences Building on the Evansdale Campus. Signs will be posted to direct donors to the drop-off location.

The engineering students are joining with Positive Spin, a local nonprofit organization that encourages alternative transportation and serves as a bicycle-recycling center. Unwanted bicycles, parts, helmets, and cash donations will be accepted.

“Anyone wanting a bike can go to Positive Spin and receive one either for a donation or in exchange for service,” said Claire Miller, vice president of Tau Beta Pi. “Positive Spin also donates the bikes they fix up to a variety of different organizations to help with the upcoming holiday season.”

Donations can also be dropped off at Positive Spin in Marilla Park, located in Saborton. Call Positive Spin for pick-up, if needed.
