Marc Williams, managing partner of Williams Communications, will visit West Virginia University as part of WVU’s College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences presentation on careers in the sports industry. The talk will focus on how to obtain careers in music, sports and entertainment and the steps students should take to prepare for the job market.

Williams will be on campus Tuesday, Nov. 16 to offer a lecture. He will speak to students at 3-4:15 p.m. in Coliseum room 172. The talk is open to students, faculty, and staff along with the general public.

Williams is one of Sports Illustrated’s Top 101 minorities in Sports and Successguide Worldwide Publication’s Top 30 Leaders of the Future. In addition, he has been named The Network Journal’s Top 40 Businessmen in America under the age of 40 and the 2010 Black Men’s Magazine “Man of the Year.” His company specializes in marketing strategies, brand awareness, entertainment, talent procurement, and event management.

“Marc Williams is a well known and respected professional in the sports and entertainment industry. He has a compelling message to share with students, and will certainly leave them with a desire to do the things that they need to do to be successful,” saind Dr. Jack Watson, Sport Sciences department chair and associate professor of Sport and Exercise Psychology at CPASS.

A native of New Jersey, Williams graduated from William Patterson University. He received a master’s degree in Sport Management from the University of Massachusetts. He began his career in 1999 at Reebok in marketing where he coordinated grassroots events for the Major League Baseball All-Star Fanfest and the McDonald’s All-American Basketball Game. Williams was named the senior manager of partnership marketing for Footaction, where he managed national campaigns and served as brand director for Champs Sports where he was instrumental in negotiating the company’s first partnership with a record label. He later served as chief marketing officer of George Mason University’s College of Education and Human Development and was an adjunct faculty member in the college’s sport management program.

Williams Communications clients include NBA Hall of Famers, Rick Barry and Nate Thurmond and former clients NBA Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, Dawn Staley and ESPN Mobile.
