West Virginia University and the Student Government Association are giving students the opportunity to meet West Virginia House and Senate candidates face-to-face.

All 10 West Virginia House of Delegates candidates for the 44th District and both candidates for the 13th District of the West Virginia Senate will be at WVU on Tuesday (Oct. 26) at 7 p.m. in the Gluck Theatre of the Mountainlair.

Each candidate will be given an estimated five minutes to share reasons for running, platform and explain why students should vote.

Following the event, at 8:30 p.m., a reception will be held giving the students the opportunity to talk to candidates one-on-one. The reception will be held in the Vandalia Lounge of the Mountainlair. Refreshments will be served.

“It is one thing to go and listen to each candidate but we, as students, also have different issues that are important to us,” said Nelson France, SGA’s liaison to city council. “This will give students ample time to talk to the candidates about issues important to them personally.”

House of Delegates candidates that will be in attendance are: Kevin Patrick-R, Amanda Pasdon -R, Chris Walters-R, Kevin Poe-R, Charlene Marshall-D, Barbara Fleischauer-D, Tony Barill-D, Steve Cook-D, Paul Brown-Independent and Tad Britch-Libertarian.

West Virginia Senate candidates that will be in attendance are: Bob Beach-D and Cindy Frich-R.

“We are really excited about this event,” France said. “It is really important that students show up and get to listen to the candidates and ask them questions. You see all the signs but you don’t really know who the candidates are until you meet them. We want to educate students, and we want them to get out there and vote.”

The event is open to the public.
