Dr. Christopher Bise, Charles T. Holland Distinguished Professor and Chairman of the Department of Mining Engineering at West Virginia University, is available to provide expert commentary on the Chilean mining rescue.

Throughout his 35-year career, Dr. Bise has been associated with the planning, engineering, operation, management, teaching and research aspects of mining and occupational and environmental health and safety. He is a registered professional engineer and a certified mine safety professional.

Dr. Bise has published extensively in a wide variety of mining topics, such as underground coal mining methods, subsidence, mine electrical power systems, mine safety, personal computer applications in mining, and respirable coal dust characteristics.

Dr. Bise’s research focuses on health and safety. He has examined a wide range of topics including the analysis and development of training programs to decrease accidents and injuries in underground coal mines and hearing conservation for underground mine workers.
