The annual Fall Percussion Ensemble Concert, to be held Friday, Oct. 8, at West Virginia University’s Creative Arts Center, will have a little bit of something for everyone.

“This year’s concert is a combination of some serious percussion music to make you think, along with some flashy and enjoyable music,” said Percussion Program Director George Willis.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.

“Percussion graduate assistant Andrew Neldon will be featured on Michael Burritt’s ‘Waking Dreams’ marimba concerto,” Willis said. “This is a really neat work!”

Also, Willis has composed a piece for the concert this year, a short work entitled “A Crash Course,” featuring an interesting combination of drums and cymbals.

Some of the students who traveled to Africa this past summer will perform a piece on clay pot-like drums called Delaries.

Finally, rounding out the program will be Steve Reich’s “Six marimbas” and Raymond Helble’s “Diabolic Variations.”

Tickets for the Percussion Ensemble Concert are available at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center Box Offices or by calling 304-293-SHOW.
