“Righteous Fire,” a new work by WVU Composer-in-Residence John Beall will be on the program as the WVU Wind Symphony performs a fall concert at the Creative Arts Center, Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Conducted by John Hendricks, III, and Dearl J. Drury, the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.

Dr. Beall has been professor of music and composer-in-residence at WVU since 1978. “Righteous Fire” is his new piece for band, and this performance will serve as the world premiere. The piece is based upon the events surrounding Pentecost, the Christian festival celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit.

The program also features an arrangement for winds of Edward Elgar’s famous “Enigma Variations,” and a bluesy jazz piece by Frank Ticheli entitled “Blue Shades.”

The Wind Symphony will perform “Prelude in Classic Style” by Gordon Young, based on a work for organ, and an arrangement by Conductor John Hendricks.

The group will also perform the beloved and beautiful choral work “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl, arranged by Robert Cameron, and “Go,” a rousing, up-tempo selection by Samuel R. Hazo.
