West Virginia University’s Commuter Student Programs is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Monday, Oct. 11.

The blood drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the main lounge of the Mountaineer Station parking facility, located on Van Voohris Road. WVU Parking Management will provide free parking at the facility for up to six hours to those who donate blood.

To be eligible to donate people must be healthy, at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and may not have given whole blood in the past 56 days, or a double red cell donation in the last 112 days.

People may not give blood if they have received a Red Cross notification asking them not to do so. Those who come to donate are asked to bring their Red Cross blood donor card or other form of government-issued ID.

Donors are encouraged to register to donate beforehand at http://www.givelife.org/index.cfm?group=registration&hlc=wvucommuter&hostlookupcode=wvucommuter. Walk-ins are welcome.

Volunteers are needed to help staff the blood drive.

To volunteer or for more information, please contact Brian Walker, coordinator for WVU Commuter Student Programs, at 304-293-5613 or Morgan Sharpless, programs assistant, at 304-293-3392.
