A live version of the improv-comedy show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” will be visiting Morgantown on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center.

The “Whose Live Anyway?” cast will feature familiar faces from the show such as Ryan Stiles, a main performer on the televised show, as well as comedians Greg Proops, Chip Esten and Jeff Davis.

The show will serve as a fundraiser for the Division of Theatre and Dance, which was set up by one of the division’s alumni, Josh Knotts. The money raised from the show’s profits will be used towards student productions, payment for guest artists and other budget concerns for the department.

Tickets for the event have already been sold, with about 10 rows left to fill the theatre. They are available for purchase for $45-$50 by visiting http://www.ticketweb.com, over the phone at 304-479-0987 for $40-$45 and also at the door on the day of the event for $50-$55. It is recommended to purchase tickets ahead of time either by phone or on the web to have a guaranteed seat. Tickets can be picked up at the will call window on the night of the show.

“Whose Line is it Anyway?” was a short British improv-comedy TV show in the 1980s, and eventually made its way to America in the 1990s, with comedian Drew Carey as the host. The show lasted eight seasons and consisted of four performers who create scenes, songs and characters on the spot in the style of improvisation games.

The live show will be much like the televised version, featuring skits and games such as “Sound Effects,” – and of course – audience participation. The show will run for approximately 90 minutes.

Despite the televised version having its final episode in 2004, these actors have been seen on television in today’s shows: Ryan Stiles can be seen on “Two and a Half Men,” Greg Proops is currently on “True Jackson: VP,” Chip Esten has been seen recently on “The Office” and Jeff Davis in “True Blood.”
