WVU Professor Emeritus Gilbert Trythall will return to the WVU campus from his current residence in Texas to hear the premiere of his 2010 composition, “sit.com,” performed by his former colleagues, music professors Virginia Thompson and James Miltenburger.

The concert, “The Music of Gil Trythall (a.k.a. GilFest!),” will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday (Sept. 16), in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall of the Creative Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.

It will also feature some of Dr. Trythall’s earlier works, including “Rimas Song,” performed by music professor Paul Scea, and “Backwards Out the Window,” a theatre piece based (with permission) on Maurice Sendak’s children’s book “Outside Over There.” Trythall wrote the theatre work in collaboration with WVU art professor Eve Faulkes in 1996 for Virginia Thompson and Paul Scea.

Trythall taught music theory and composition at WVU from 1974 to 1999 and served as the dean of the College of Creative Arts from 1976 to 1981.

A reception within Bloch Hall will immediately follow the performance.
