On Friday (Sept. 3) West Virginia University is encouraging all students, faculty, staff, alumni and other fans to show their support for the school by wearing gold and blue.

WVU is one of many universities around the country taking part in national College Colors Day, an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that make the college experience memorable.

“I would like to encourage Mountaineer nation to join me in supporting National College Colors Day on Friday, Sept. 3,” said Bill Stewart, WVU head football coach. “Show your pride for West Virginia University by wearing your Gold and Blue on this day.”

In keeping with the excitement, Director of Athletics Oliver Luck is also starting a new Mountaineer Friday’s tradition. Luck is encouraging the WVU community to continue to don gold and blue every Friday throughout the year.

WVU has teamed up with Nike to produce an official 2010 WVU Fan Shirt. The shirt, which reads “Be A Mountaineer” on the front and “Leave No Doubt” with a picture of the Mountaineer on the back, will be hitting stores around Aug. 30.

College Colors Day coincides with WVU’s annual FanFest pep rally, which is set to kick off at 5 p.m. on Sept. 3 on the Mountainlair plaza. A rain location has been set for the Mountainlair ballrooms.
