While the location is the same, West Virginia University students now have a new locale to participate in pre-game activities.
All WVU students are invited to come to the “The Student LOT,” formally known as “The Pit,” before all Saturday home football games. The lot will open three hours prior to kick-off, and close 30 minutes before.
At the lot, students will be able to pick up a variety of free food, participate in entertainment, earn giveaways and hang out with their friends before heading into the stadium. The lot will be an alcohol-free zone.
“We are very excited about the changes to the former ‘Pit,’” said Vice President of Student Affairs Ken Gray. “We strongly believe that these changes will have a positive impact on the overall student experience at WVU. The lot will provide all students with a safe, fun and free place to spend time with other Mountaineers before home football games.”
Students will be required to show their WVU identification cards before entering the lot, and will be allowed to bring a guest.
The Student Organizations Services office is offering 25 parking permits for students to park in the lot for free. Permits will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Permits can be picked up at the Student Organizations Services office in the Mountainlair the Monday before each game, beginning at 9 a.m.
Entertainment, food and giveaways will change each week depending on the theme and department in charge of programming.
For the first game of the season, held on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Coastal Carolina, WVU Residential Education is in charge of programming. Live entertainment will be provided by the “Vintage Drive” band, with food from Texas Roadhouse. Giveaways include WVU t-shirts and gift cards. The Mountaineer mascot and WVU cheerleaders will be in attendance. The Ridge, various restaurants, Copper Beach Townhomes and other off-campus housing establishments are helping to sponsor the event.
