The West Virginia University School of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy professional program recently received continued accreditation by the American Council for Pharmacy Education. The accreditation is valid until 2016—a full six years, which is the maximum length of time for accreditation.

ACPE is the national accreditation agency of professional pharmacy degree programs and providers of continuing pharmacy education.

“This accreditation determination is due to the exceptional work of our faculty and staff,” said Patricia Chase, Ph.D., dean of the WVU School of Pharmacy. “Our faculty and staff are the backbone of our school and it is through their work that we are able to provide this very high level of education and preparation for our students to become pharmacy professionals.”

The accreditation includes the Doctor of Pharmacy programs in Morgantown, and at the WVU School of Pharmacy divisions in Charleston, Huntington and Martinsburg.

“With our programs throughout the state we are able to provide our Doctor of Pharmacy professional students with a better understanding of the health care needs of West Virginians, so they can offer excellent patient care,” Chase stated.

The accreditation review took place in early March 2010 and included interviews with faculty, staff, students and alumni.

“The WVU School of Pharmacy has been educating leaders in the profession of pharmacy for almost 100 years,” Chase said. “Receiving our continued ACPE accreditation is an honor and validation of the quality of our professional program.”
