This year’s Blue and Gold Mine Sale of students’ unwanted furnishings and clothes brought in about $11,000 for the United Way of Monongalia and Preston counties.

Every spring since 2005, WVU, the City of Morgantown and the United Way have worked together to save approximately 60 tons of material a year from being thrown out and sell it to support the United Way. This year’s sale was held May 22 at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Barbara Angeletti, WVU’s recycling coordinator, said collection bins are placed in every residence hall and other places on and off campus toward the end of the spring semester.

Angeletti said the sale began in part to recycle items that were being sent to the landfill.

“Every year it’s a benefit to the community at large in terms of providing good usable material at a reasonable price,” Angeletti said. “It supports WVU’s sustainability efforts, and it benefits local charitable organizations.”
