Ever Barbero, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at West Virginia University, recently authored the second edition of “Introduction to Composite Materials Design,” published by CRC Press in July.

Aimed at undergraduate students and practicing engineers, the emphasis of the book is on practicality and design, said Barbero. Those elements are accomplished not only through numerical examples, but also through explanations of the material.

“This edition incorporates advances in knowledge and design methods that have taken place over the last 10 years, yet it maintains the distinguishing features of the first edition,” said Barbero.

The first edition was a best seller and peer reviews indicate that the second edition will be no different.

“This text does an excellent job of combining composite material information in a single location,” said John Tomblin, executive director, National Institute for Aviation Research and Sam Bloomfield Distinguished Professor of Aerospace Engineering, Wichita State University. “It is an excellent teaching tool for instruction as well as a useful reference book for the designing composite engineer.”

Independent consultant Carl Zweben said, “This is an excellent book, both as an introductory college text and for practicing engineers. It is full of thoughtful and useful insights that I have not found in other texts.”

Barbero, a former chair of the WVU Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, is an American Society of Mechanical Engineers Fellow and a Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering Fellow. Copies of the book can be purchased from Amazon.
