The West Virginia University College of Business and Economics will honor 46 students graduating from the Master of Business Administration program and 45 students graduating from the Master of Science in Industrial Relations program on June 25-26.

The MSIR hooding ceremony will be held on Friday, June 25, at Touchdown Terrace at Milan Puskar Stadium at 4 p.m. The MBA hooding ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 26, in the Mountainlair Blue Ballroom at 2 p.m.

Participants hail from seven countries and eight states, and their plans and their futures are as unique as their backgrounds. Of those who are currently employed, they come from companies such as BB&T, Bechtel Plant Machinery, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Protea Biosciences, Target and Wells Fargo.

“This intensive study has helped these students open many doors,” said William Trumbull, interim dean, College of Business and Economics. “The people who have completed these programs will do fascinating things—from working for the New York Yankees to a one-year stint with Child Voice International in Uganda.

Trumbull added, “Domestic students were required to pursue international study abroad as part of their program. As a result, we had students in China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland and Italy. Some will continue at their jobs, some will enter the job market, some will go on to law school and some will continue to pursue and enrich their educational experiences.”

Study abroad is required in the MBA program and encouraged in the MSIR program. Officials with the College of Business and Economics Office of Graduate Programs said that study abroad is a valuable opportunity, and that learning in an international setting is an important educational component.

Steve Seem, who will graduate with an MBA, said the program has already given him an advantage in a tight job market.

“The excellent education and diverse experiences I gained through the WVU MBA program have already directly contributed to my competitiveness and success in the job market,” he said. “The program has provided us with real world experience and expert knowledge to prepare us for the next step in our lives. This experience has truly given me a distinct advantage as I prepare to embark on my professional career.”
