When: Thursday, June 17, through Friday, June 18.

Why: The WV Physical Activity Symposium will showcase the state’s current efforts in changing the physical activity culture as well as focus on a strategic plan for WV in the future. The Symposium will feature nationally renowned speakers and presentations showcasing WV best practices.

Speaker Highlight: Shannon Miller, 2-time Olympic gold medalist and 7-time Olympic Medalist and 9-time World Medalist. She remains the most decorated American gymnast, male or female, in history, having won more Olympic and World Championship medals than any other US gymnast.

Shannon is a passionate supporter for the health and wellness of women and children. She has been a strong advocate for education and awareness of heart disease, cervical cancer and prenatal health & fitness. In addition, The Shannon Miller Foundation fights childhood obesity through fitness and nutritional education.

Through Shannon’s focus on children, teens and women’s fitness, she strives to make a positive impact on their health through education and awareness of the health risks associated with obesity. The Shannon Miller Foundation offers children the opportunity to be physically active, and gain greater nutritional knowledge.
