The West Virginia Local Technical Assistance Program is hosting a free Occupational Safety and Health 10-hour training geared specifically for the roadway construction industry. The course is being held in Morgantown at the West Virginia University Coliseum, Jerry West Lounge, May 26 and 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

WV LTAP is housed in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in WVU’ s College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, and provides training and technical assistance for highway maintenance and safety workers. Funding is provided by the Federal Highway Administration and the West Virginia Department of Transportation.

Attendees completing the entire OSHA course will earn an OSHA 10-hour card from the OSHA Training Institute. This course is worth 12.5 professional development hours and focuses on practical approaches to recognizing and controlling OSHA-identified construction hazards. Specifically, 11 key construction work zone-related safety and health topics will be covered, including understanding OSHA, night work, electrical safety and excavations and trenching.

Space for the OSHA training is limited and participants are encouraged to pre-register as soon as possible. The registration deadline is Thursday, May 20. To register or for more information, email Kim Carr at kim.carr@mail.wvu.edu or call 304-293-9924.
